Sources Of Funding For Training
Young Persons (16-20)
The Young LGV Driver Training Scheme gives young employees in the industry the opportunity to obtain a vocational LGV driving licence from the age of 18 rather than wait until 21. Training on the scheme is assisted by funding of £1,650 per trainee from the Road Haulage Modernisation Fund, or higher levels of funding if linked to a Modern Apprenticeship scheme with the addition of a Key Skills module.
A Young Driver who ceases to be employed by a Skills for Logistics Registered Company while on the scheme automatically looses his LGV licence entitlements.
The employee follows a structured training programme leading to a level 2 NVQ (S/NVQ) in "Driving Goods Vehicles" or "Transporting Goods by Road". In addition driving skills are regularly assessed.
The organisation delivering the training must be an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) with Skills for Logistics. The employing company must be registered as an approved employer with one of the ATOs. A written agreement must be made between the employee, the employer and the ATO setting out the obligations and responsibilities of each party and explaining the training plan.
