Crime Prevention Message from West Midlands Police
West Midlands Police suggest that hauliers take the following preventative measures to help reduce HGV crime.
- Recruit honest and reliable drivers
- Drivers should be trained in security measures
- Drivers should lock/secure their vehicle whenever they leave the cab and always keep their keys with them
- Drivers should plan where they are going to park before they start their journey
- Keep up to date records ie all numbers of major parts, trailers and special equipment
- Install security equipment if it isn't already fitted into your vehicles
- Drivers should refuel on site and buy cigarettes, newspapers and so on before starting their journey
- Drivers should check that their vehicle is correctly loaded and report any loading irregularities
- Secure your premises with fences, gates, surveillance, CCTV, guards etc
- Roof markings on HGVs help Police Air Support Units to identify vehicles if they are stolen
